Luxulyan Valley

It's not just the coastline in Cornwall that promises stunning scenery, fresh air and countless trails. Why not explore the stunning forests and  countryside too. My personal favourite is Luxulyan Valley, a 10 minute drive or 1 hour 20 minute walk along the clay trails from Rockleigh Place. With stunning, tranquil woodland and rich mining heritage, Luxulyan Valley is bound to capture your imagination.

What to do there

Either walk all the way here or park in the designated car park, put on your hiking shoes and venture out! There are a number of routes that take you through the Treffry Viaduct, Par river, old mill, waterfalls and of course the lush magical woodland. The best way to experience this place is to walk or cycle the full route, you may find this interactive map helpful.

Why not pop into Luxulyan village on your way back, it has a great village pub called Kings Arms as well as an interesting 15th century church. Alternatively, bring a picnic, find a beautiful patch and enjoy the tranquility.

How to get there:

If you are driving, you can leave your car at the Luxulyan Valley car park and walk/cycle from there. It's a 10 minute drive from Rockleigh Place. Alternatively you can cycle here in 24 minutes (longer if you choose to go through the clay trail network) or you can walk from Rockleigh. If you walk we advise you walk through the clay trails as the more direct route is mainly country roads with no pavements. Combining this walk with the Clay Trails would be my recommendation as they are also definitely worth a visit, however this will require around 4 hours of walking including the return walk.

When to visit:

My favorite time would have to be spring/early summer, the sweet aromas of wild flowers, luminous green tree foliage and vast fields of bluebells are really quite hard to beat. However, autumn will bring with it gorgeous colors and summer will no doubt have the best weather and a lush green forest. In the winter, the forest is mysterious, fresh and waterfalls and rivers are powerful and full of water.

Practical information:

Within the valley there is no mobile reception so please ensure you make any pick up arrangements ahead of time. Be sure to bring good footwear and water. Always be respectful towards the natural environment and take your litter with you.
